2021 has gotten off to a busy start, and one of my first projects was also a first for me: a book animation! Tracey Enerson Wood knew she wanted to use falling petals in an animation for her second novel, The War Nurse. But beyond that, I had to wing it and figure something out. I decided to try using Adobe Premiere Rush — a much simpler video editing tool than Adobe’s full-on Premiere software, which is made for video pros. Rush turned out to be perfect for this project, I could layer images, text, and video, and create smooth transitions. I had a lot of fun playing around with timing and effects, though I did find myself frustrated that the program didn’t have some of the tools I was used to using back when Adobe Flash was still in vogue. Nevertheless, I ended up with a short book animation that Tracey loved, and now she can post it all over social media!
