I’m an active member of the PTO at my kids’ school (they call them “Friends” organizations these days). In addition to being a member of the Board, and Author Visit Coordinator, I’m also the Fundraising Chair. Two years ago, our school eliminated bake sales, pizza sales, mug sales, etc. etc. etc. in favor of a straight-up Appeal. Once a year, we ask parents to donate money, and for the past two years, we’ve managed to raise over $25,000. Fundraising is something I NEVER thought I’d do, but it turns out that the combination of design skills and writing skills actually comes in pretty handy.
