Clarence Major is a prolific author, poet, and painter, and I needed to find an elegant way to showcase his work: nearly 40 books (!!), as well as ~40 pieces of art. That’s a LOT of content, and it can get pretty unwieldy for a website! I decided against creating individual book pages for every book, opting instead for a Book Gallery where we could display all of his book covers in a compact space. The gallery can be filtered by category (Fiction, Poetry, Non-Fiction, Anthologies), and it’s a breeze to use. Each cover also includes a short blurb as well as a Buy link. Compact and elegant! For Clarence’s latest works, I created more detailed individual pages where we could display reviews, etc, and on the Home page I included a testimonial carousel to give it some movement.
And then for my favorite: the Painting Gallery! This feature really showcases Clarence’s gorgeous paintings, and I loved taking inspiration from them to design the site, using lots of vibrant colors and textures.
Clarence has such an impressive body of work, and it was truly an honor for me to work on this site — of course I love all my clients, but I do think this was one of my favorite projects ever!
